"Dear John,
I need someone I can trust. The Empire is in grave danger, torn by its inner
conflicts. The uneasy truce with the Elves may be broken as you read this
letter. The Greenskins have rebelled once again. In addition, I haven't heard
from our outposts in the west for months. However, the greatest threat does not
come from within. The Underworld has risen from the ashes. The troglodytes
were seen crawling out from their caves and tunnels and looting our caravans
in the east. Unless we attack first, even the White Court may be in danger!
What must you do? Flag all the largest dwellings so that you can bring me
their emissaries. I need the loyalty and support of each alignment! Finally,
in order to prove your worthiness, you must come in the adamantine armor,
wearing the adamantine shield and the horned bow, too. Only the greatest
heroes are allowed to enter the White Court. Recruit any help that you can get
- creatures, scouts and henchmen - but trust no one except your sweetheart,
Lady Jane.
Good luck,
His Majesty, the Emperor
Additional Info: Like it is written in this prologue, the player needs to find three
artifacts, recruit level 4 creatures of each alignment and bring them all
to the main town. Then you can choose two endings - finish the scenario as
a noble hero, or lead the army of the Empire against the forces of Underworld.
Credits: Three quest huts that function as neutral dwellings were taken from the file
available at Celestial Heavens download page. They don't always work properly,
but I couldn't do it better myself, so... One quest hut was just modified;
it helped me with my first H4 scripting ever, so I decided to leave it as a
kind of homage to its author.
For the player: The special loss ("lose heroes named John and Jane") is not enabled; it
serves as a reminder that you'll need those two to complete the main quest.
You may be disappointed with the lack of a starting town, but don't worry:
you will be able to learn magic, recruit creatures and resurrect dead heroes
along the way.
I wanted to create an XL singleplayer scenario, a fun hack'n'slash with some
quests, like Diablo 2. This means no long AI turns - you get to play all the
time. In addition, you will have great movement and fight several battles a
day, so save often.
If the very beginning is too easy for you, restart at higher difficulty.
Update: Version 1.1 fixes two major bugs - "change owner" and "summon ship" features.
Spoilers: **************** scroll down *****************
In the very beginning, John is too weak to defeat the ghosts who "possesssed"
Jane, so it is better to hire another hero, explore the area and level up. Do
not forget about Jane, though - not only does she have valuable items (boots
and mandoline), but also you need her to complete the main quest.
Choose whichever direction you want.
To get the Adamantine Armor, you'll have to visit the Eastern Oracle (golden)
in the southeast and dig for Grail, then take it to the quest hut called
"Mayor's Mansion" in the west.
There are two ways to get the Adamantine Shield. If you decide to be "good",
destroy the "Citadel of Fear" in the centre, then go north to get
250 Crusaders in the quest hut called "Holy Temple". Transport 200 of them
to the south in order to get your prize from the quest hut called
"Prophet's Parlor". If you decide to be "bad", don't destroy the "Citadel of
Fear" object in the centre and you will get lots of vampires. You will need
Grandmaster Necromancy skill to raise additional ones, because the quest hut
called "Fungus" will ask you for 200.
To get the Horned Bow from the Elf King in the west you will have to find the
"tribe of missing elves" in the labyrinth in the east. You don't need to fight
30k Elves or 30k Faerie Dragons - all you need is Grandmaster Stealth.
Keep off the walls, though.
Equip the three relics and lead John and Jane through the first gate into a
town called "Caravansaray". Use the pre-built caravan to recruit 1 Titan,
1 Devil, 1 Faerie Dragon, 1 Behemoth, and 1 Black Dragon. Now this army can
enter the second gate and the town called "White Court".
You can choose to accept a title and an estate and win the scenario here.
You can also choose to recruit the army and go underground. To do this, go to the
sign that says "Death Valley" and summon a ship right there.
Travel by ship to the underground. There you will find your goal -
a town called "Troglodistan"."
